Glendale Senior “The Cascalote” Grand Opening Event
October 22, 2025
Location: 4910 West Glenn Drive Glendale, AZ
The Tofel Dent Construction team attended Mercy Housing’s grand opening celebration for The Cascalote (Glendale Senior) late October in Glendale, Arizona. Congratulations to Mercy Housing on this incredible milestone!
The Cascalote provides 148 affordable apartment homes for seniors ages 62 and older in the City of Glendale. Supported by $28.1 million in LIHTC tax credits from the Arizona Department of Housing (ADOH) and an additional $3 million in federal funding, the community promotes housing stability and dignity for local seniors.
Seventeen apartments are reserved for seniors transitioning out of homelessness or living with disabilities, with priority given to veterans. The community’s name, Cascalote, honors the native evergreen tree known for its vibrant yellow blooms. Much like its namesake, The Cascalote represents resilience, sustainability, and beauty—providing shelter and connection within the Glendale community.
Speakers at the event included Shelly Marquez, President of Mercy Housing Mountain Plains; Ruby Dhillon-Williams, Director of the Arizona Department of Housing; Lupe Conchas, Glendale City Councilmember, Cactus District; Ron Gaeti, resident at The Cascalote; and Jim Tofel, Managing Member at Tofel Dent Construction.
Councilmember Conchas shared heartfelt remarks: “(Seniors) You will weather these seasons… thank you for bringing your warmth and beauty, your resilience to this wonderful community in Glendale.” He emphasized the city’s ongoing commitment to providing wrap-around services for seniors—including healthcare, nutrition, housing, recreation, and social connection.
One resident expressed their excitement:
“(The Cascalote)… it is the perfect place for me!”
The success of this project reflects the collaboration and hard work of many. From the Tofel Dent Construction team: Brian Welker, Jim Noller, Steve Marascalco, Dylan Turner, Frank Cwick, Tyler Stearns, Ramon Polanco, Eric Furbacher, Clayton Clark, Chris Cobos, Kevin Cobos, and Chris Chaney, as well as many others across our Development and Operations teams.
We’re proud to have partnered with Todd & Associates, Inc. on design and Mercy Housing’s Kuhl Brown and Jeff Bader on project delivery.
As Ruby Dhillon-Williams shared,
“The Cascalote allows the elderly to age with dignity.”
Congratulations to all the partners who helped bring this vision to life.
